Ceramic wick

Meths-fired live steam engine performance depends critically on wick condition and geometry. Traditionally asbestos cord was used, but this brings severe health risks from released particles and is strongly deprecated. Ceramic chord is the prefered modern wick material, which we offer for £3 per metre.

In use, cut to length and comb out the chord. Fill burner cups so that the wick is just tight enough to not fall out when the engine in inverted, but no tighter.
